Quick Water Chemistry Guide
Common Spa Water Problems - Cause and Remedy
| PROBLEM | POSSIBLE CAUSES | SOLUTIONS |
| Cloudy Water | Organic Contaminants Build up | Shock treatment with Refresh |
| Suspended Particles | Add Easy Clear |
| pH high | Add Adjust Down until level reads 7.2 - 7.6 |
| Total alkalinity high | Add Adjust Down adjust T/A level to 100 - 130 |
| Hardness too high | Add Best Defence until level reads 15 -280 PPM |
| Poor filter | Dirty filter, clean with Filter Restore |
| High dissolved solids | Empty spa and refill |
| Combined chlorine in the water | Shock treatment until combined chlorine is eliminated (see container instructions) |
| COLORED WATER | Dissolved metals from equipment or water source | Use Best Defence and have your dealer check your water balance |
| Low chlorine/bromine levels | Boost treatment and test chlorine/bromine levels |
| Fragrance | Stop the use of fragrance |
| FOAMING | High concentration of oils and organics being agitated by the jets | Squirt Foam Dissolve on foam |
| SCALE DEPOSITS | High Calcium level, high pH, high alkalinity | Drain partially, add Best Defence, correct pH level to 7.2 - 7.6 and alkalinity to 100 - 130 PPM |
| ODOR | High level of arganic contaminants, combined with chlorine | Shock with Refresh, and sanitizers |
| EYE/SKIN IRRITATION | pH to low | Add Adjust Up until level reads 7.2 - 7.6 PPM |
| Combinded chlorine due to high concentration of organic contaminants | Add refresh, add sanitizers Drain and refill spa if necessary |
| NO CHLORINE/BROMINE READING | High concentration of contaminants using up sanitizers | Add sanitizers until water chemistry is par with recommended levels |
| Test kit reagents ineffective | Replace at least once a year |
